In Malaysia the title Datuk is a formal honorific style both in traditional and stately titles.

Individual states that have a head of state by the respective state's legislature may confer the title of Datuk to individuals. And a state that is headed by a Sultan may confer the title of Dato'.

The wife of a Datuk, or of a Dato', is a Datin.
